About this cartridge type
String-wound cartridges are built by winding polypropylene cord around a rigid core, which gives a deep, open structure that holds a lot of sand, silt, rust and scale before pressure drop climbs. They are a common first stage ahead of carbon, UV, softeners and RO. The SWC series data sheet suggests changing out at 10–15 psig differential pressure, with 30 psig as the dirty maximum. Before you switch, compare the end style and gasket your housing uses, check the flow per cartridge against the published pressure-drop figures, and tell us any certification your specification calls for.
